Barbara Ann Dwyer, passed away on June 30, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. She was 72 years old and losing her is profoundly difficult for her family and friends.
She was born Barbara Ann Widener on December 15, 1951, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but spent most of her life in the Hatboro area, graduating from Upper Moreland High School, class of 1969. Barbara worked tirelessly as a single parent to support her two daughters through Bookkeeping and Controller positions for local small businesses.
Barbara was a dedicated Philadelphia Eagles’ fan, always proudly clad in her Eagle’s green! She flew as far as London, England, Georgia, and California, alongside her fellow Green Legion fans, to support her favorite team. Barbara’s cheers were usually the loudest in the room. Go birds! She was a passionate patriot and believed very strongly in the Democratic process. She worked closely with the Democratic party of Montgomery County, even working the polls through the global pandemic, to ensure access to voters. An avid gardener, Barbara was an active volunteer with the Crooked Billet Gardening Club. She adored the annual Philadelphia Flower Show and outings to Longwood Gardens.
Despite her myriad of interests, Barbara’s greatest treasure and joy were her daughters and five grandchildren. She maintained her backyard swimming pool and trampoline for their delight, and the freezer was never without ice cream bars or Rita’s water ice, assorted flavors of course! Sharing experiences with them was her top priority. No one was ever surprised by their frequent travel excursions together. Destinations with her family included trips to Universal Studios, Walt Disney World and Walt Disney Land; she loved all things Disney! Museums and beaches always topped her list, and some favorites landed her in Costa Rica, Mexico, OBX, Hawaii, the Caribbean, California, New York, and Massachusetts, where she gleefully tossed mock-up tea overboard at a Boston tea party reenactment. Whether she was enjoying a paddleboat tour of Nashville with her daughters or sipping gin and tonics on the beautiful sunset shores of Nun’s Beach in Stone Harbor, NJ, with cousins, she was sure to be enjoying herself. It was traveling with daughters, son-in-law, and grandchildren that Barbara was happiest, always returning her to a childlike state of magical wonder through exploration of new places. The outdoor beauty of our great nation was absolutely enthralling to Barbara and she frequented Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Niagara Falls and Canyonlands, Utah, just to name a few.
Barbara made diligent efforts to maintain close relations with extended family and never missed a chance to attend a wedding, birthday celebration, or annual family reunion. Being with her extended family gave her endless delight and ensuring our family stayed well connected was of the greatest importance.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, John and Florence Ungerman, her brother Charles (Joey) and her adored Collie, Victoria. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Vedra Osborn, three granddaughters Adeline (18), Myla (15), Everly Osborn (14), of Fort Collins, CO and Valerie Hurley, her husband, Michael (Mickey) and their two children, Kahlan(16) and James Hurley (13) of Telford, PA, as well as her two sisters, Susan Anduze and Donna Rosenbaum, brother-in-law, Mark Rosenbaum, her brother Mark Widener, his long time partner Patricia Reed and many loving nieces and nephews.
