Bernice Windish-Hawthorne

Bernice Windish-Hawthorne of Hatboro, Pennsylvania passed away on July 5, 2026 at Gloria Dei. She was 94 years young.  She was the devoted wife to Joseph E. Windish with whom she shared 20 years of marriage before his death and later married Ralph Hawthorne.  Bernice was born at Abington Hospital, the daughter of Emma Simmons and Paul Stuhltrager.

Bernice graduated from Cheltenham High School.  In her senior year, she was voted  Most Athletic female, playing basketball, field hockey and softball. She was a longtime employee of Vicks/ Proctor and Gamble where she developed many lifelong friendships. 

Bernice loved her times down the shore with her family at Ocean City, New Jersey which included long days on the beach, and enjoying the boardwalk.  She enjoyed time at family gatherings, watching sports, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. One of her greatest loves was supporting the Philadelphia Eagles as a 54 year season ticket holder.  She was a devoted fan who loved attending games with her kids and friends. Not only would you find her at the linc on Sundays, she also followed her birds to the super bowl in Jacksonville and also celebrated on broad street after their super bowl victory in 2018.  GO BIRDS!

Bernice is survived by her children Joanne Windish\ Bauer and her husband John,

Carol Windish, Joseph  Windish and his wife Marylynn and Sharon Windish/Corrigan and her husband  James.  Preceded in death by Daughter Patricia Windish.  She is dearly loved by 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Thursday, July 9th after 9:00 am in St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 2119 Old Welsh Road, Abington, Pa 19001 and to attend her Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Her interment will follow in Whitemarsh Memorial Park Cemetery, Ambler.
