Donald S. Alderfer of Huntingdon Valley passed away on April 12, 2024 at Luther Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hatboro, PA. He was 90 years old. He was the devoted husband of Claire I. Alderfer, with whom he had shared 60 years of marriage. He was born at Grandview Hospital in Sellersville, PA and was the son of the late Arthur & Mary Alderfer.
After graduating Souderton High school, Don attended the University of Colorado, where he majored in finance and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in business. He then joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after serving in Korea and Japan. Don was a Senior Trust Officer at Liberty Real Estate Bank and Fidelity Bank, and was later promoted to Vice President. He moved to PNC Bank where he finished his career as a trust advisor. When Don retired he received many heartfelt thank you letters from clients he had worked with for years.
Don enjoyed playing tennis, golf, fishing, reading, deer hunting, but most of all traveling. Every summer at least a week was spent in Ocean City, NJ with his family. Don and Claire also visited Hilton Head, Arizona or Florida each year. Don and Claire took trips to Canada, Spain, and Switzerland, but Don's favorite vacation was traveling to Greece in 2001.
Don was a kind, caring, honorable man. He took great care of Claire, his children and grandchildren, and will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by two daughters, Aimee C. Chew and her husband Matthew Chew of Shoreline, WA, Abbe C. Feledick and her husband Thomas Feledick of Doylestown, PA, a son Andrew A. Alderfer of Horsham, PA, six grandchildren Cameron, Cody, Colson, Caitie, Shaelyn and Tommy, sister Kathe McDaniel of Telford, PA, and brother David Alderfer and his wife Berit Alderfer of Newport Beach, CA. Don was predeceased by his brother Dennis Alderfer of Green Valley, AZ in 2007.
Relatives and friends are invited to his interment on Wednesday April 24th in Washington Crossing National Ceremony, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Please arrive by 10am for his 10:30am Graveside Service and Military Honors. Donald’s Funeral Service will follow at 12 noon in Grace Presbyterian Church, 444 York Rd, Jenkintown, PA 19046, followed by lunch at 1:00pm in the church.
