Elaine D. McDowell of Hatboro went to be with her Lord, June 5, 2021, at Gloria Dei Memory Care in Hatboro. She was 93. She was the devoted and beloved wife of Robert E. McDowell who preceded her in death in 1976. Elaine was born in Philadelphia, Pa on September 3, 1927, and was the daughter of Helen and Elwood Donaghy.
After graduating from Collingswood High School, she gained employment at Penn Mutual Insurance Company. After marrying her husband Robert, they bought a home in Woodbury, NJ and started their family. They then purchased a new home and settled in Hatboro in 1963. Elaine was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was also an active volunteer for the North Willow Grove PTA, along with the Hatboro Little League, The Hatboro YMCA Swim Team and the Upper Moreland High School Sports Booster Club and the Marching Band Parents Booster Club. She also actively served as a Poll worker during numerous local and national elections. In 1975 she went back into the workforce serving as a Medical Assistant with Abington Pediatrics and worked also for Abington Dental Associates. She then later worked with and retired from the Aramark Food Service Group where she become a familiar early morning smiling face on the Prudential Business Campus helping to jump start the day for many employees. In her later years she continued to love on her 5 grandchildren and more recently her 4 great grandchildren by attending and supporting each of them with their active lives by smiling, laughing, and always providing encouraging words.
Elaine is survived by her two daughters, Deborah [Terry] Mohler of Crossville, TN, Bonnie [Scott] Pully of Hatboro and Robert C. [Karen] McDowell of Wilton, CT. Also, surviving are her grandchildren, Briana [Thomas] Porter of Elkton MD, Jenna [Timothy] Karnes of Nescopeck, PA, Nicole Pully of Willow Grove, Scott [Chelsea] Pully, Jr. of Perkasie and Robert C. McDowell, Jr. of New York City. She is also survived by her loving brother James [Vivian] Donaghy of Manhattan Beach, CA, and Cousin Virginia Binns of Willow Grove along with many nieces, nephews, extended familiy and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother John [Wanda] Donaghy. The family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers from the Gloria Dei Memory Care in The Park facility for their professional and loving care these past several years.
Relatives and friends are invited for visitation with the family on Friday, June 11, 2021, after 10 am in Schneider Funeral Home, 431 North York Road, Hatboro and to attend her memorial service at 11am. Her interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent in Elaine’s name to the Gloria Dei Memory Care at the Park, 3455 Davisville Road, Hatboro, Pa 19040.
