Eugene “Gene” E. Thompson Jr. of Hatboro passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the age of 89. Gene was the beloved husband of the late Janet Stalker Thompson, with whom he had shared over 62 years of marriage. Born in Abington, PA, he was the son of the late Eugene E. and Elsie C. (Mueller) Thompson.
Gene grew up in the Hatboro-Horsham area and attended Hatboro High School. He loved the big band music of his youth and the 50’s & 60’s bands. You could regularly find him dancing in roller skates at the Jamison Roller Rink. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy where he played the drum in the USNA Drum and Bugle Corps at the Great Lakes Boot Camp. He then served as a Navy Seabee in the jungles of the Philippines in the Korean War. After his discharge, he married his high school sweetheart and together they raised a family and were very active in community service. He worked for Bell Telephone for 42 years, Hatboro Borough in maintenance in his later years, and still found time to serve as a lifetime member of the Lion’s Club of Hatboro. He was a member of Lehman Methodist Church. In the 80s, he with his wife owned and operated Rosewood Card & Gift Shop in Warminster for 10 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on car’s and watching all forms of auto racing. Gene was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gene is survived by his sons, Daniel Thompson and Edward Thompson and wife, Christie, his 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many other loving relatives and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Janet S. Thompson, his sons, Robert Thompson and Gene Thompson, and his daughter and son-in-law, Karen Fox and husband, James.

Relatives and friends will be received by his family on Saturday, October 15, 2022 after 10:30 am in Schneider Funeral Home, 431 N. York Road, Hatboro and are invited to attend his Memorial Service at 11:00 am. His interment will follow in Hatboro Cemetery, Hatboro, PA.
