Evelyn C. Meade (Asousa) of Willow Grove, PA died peacefully at home and surrounded by family, on August 20, 2023. We are grateful that God wove the life of Evelyn within our own. We know that God had a position open for a devout believer, unwavering faithful servant, artisan and craftswoman, holiday decorator, baker, caregiver, teacher, independent business owner, wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, memory keeper, and friend. His choice was undeniable and she accepted His position, ready to live eternity beside Him.
Married for 43 years to Gregory S. Meade (predeceased), Mom to Deb Cechak (Jan), Robyn Bailey (Scott), and Bonnie Young (Michael). Grandmom/’G‘ma to Gregory Cechak (Tracy), Thomas Cechak (Andrea), and Charles Cechak (Jenna), Brynn Bailey, Doug Bailey (Carlie), James Bailey (Courtney), Shelby Young (Kyle), and Dayton Young. Great Grandmom to Hannah and Abigail Cechak.
Evelyn grew up in Philadelphia, the proud and creative daughter of Charles and Johara Asousa (predeceased). Her siblings Anaise, Jeanette (predeceased), Helen, Teddy (predeceased), and Gloria, as well as her many nieces and nephews were instrumental in creating the multitude of memories that included family reunions.
Known for spending much time on her bicycle as a child, her response was always, “How am I going to meet people?” And meet people she did, throughout her 88 years of life.
An artist in so many ways, Carlson Drive counted on her festive holiday decorations each year. Upper Moreland, Horsham, and Willow Grove knew her for her many community commitments. Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, the Ultimate classroom mother, Girl Scout Leader, Adult Evening School Instructor, and Retirement Home Craft Leader were just a few of the titles she held. She used her God given talents to enhance the lives of all ages and contributed her smile and positive energy to many other organizations.
Evelyn’s beautiful mind was her greatest gift. Working in Market Research at Rhone-Poulenc Rorer for decades, she continued to hold tight friendships with those she met. She appreciated those who helped to support her Original Paper Cuttings by Evelyn business, which eventually led to many accolades and awards in Pennsylvania and then throughout the country, such as the Biltmore Estates.
Through purchases and gifts, Evelyn’s work stands proudly in homes and offices all over the world.
Knowing Evelyn means you have probably been blessed with her food, her art, her compassion, and her heart. She loved making things ‘special’ for all those she loved, and showed her thanks to family, friends, doctors and other healthcare workers, and all those who impacted her life, with her many gifts.
Over the last several years, she met many amazing people who worked to continue her life, but Dr. Michael Seidman stands out as the one we trusted to keep her with us for as long as we could. We are eternally grateful to him.
Evelyn’s love of Christmas welcomed visitors year-round, with her collections of music boxes, toys, and Santas. Johnny Mathis music permeates our memories as a soundtrack to the Meade household.
Evelyn was a patriotic American and supported many organizations that helped Veterans.
Knowing Evelyn means you felt the love of the Lord.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Celebration of Life, to share how Evelyn Meade did things “Evelyn’s Way.” Her visitation will be on Saturday, August 26th from 9:00 am until her time of service at 10:30 am in Supplee Presbyterian Church, 855 Welsh Road, Maple Glen, Pa 19002. Her interment will follow in Whitemarsh Memorial Park Cemetery, Ambler.
