Florence Eichlin Obituary

Florence Lewis Heyer Eichlin, 92, formerly of Horsham, PA, passed away on April 9, 2020. The wife of the late John A Heyer, and later in life, Harold W Eichlin.  Florence was born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late  Idwal Lewis and Eleanor Morgan Lewis, on January 19, 1928.

Following her graduation from Olney HS, Floss worked briefly as a stenographer. Her knowledge of shorthand lasted with her, through many years, even while other memories faded.

Her true life’s calling began in the fall of 1946, with her marriage to John Heyer, also of Philadelphia. Floss devoted herself to her marriage, motherhood and family. She and John relocated to Horsham just prior to the birth of their third child, within a mile of her beloved sister, the late Grace Matthy and her family. Several years later Floss and John would care for her elderly parents in their expanded home.

Floss was a long time member of St John’s Lutheran Church, in Hatboro, where she joyously sang in the church choir and served on various committees. She enjoyed laughing with her children, entertaining family and friends, Sunday dinners, listening to all genres of music, yearly vacations to Ocean City, NJ. and the Philadelphia Phillies. Floss held a special place in her heart for her children, their spouses and her grandchildren.

Floss and John were married for 45 years, until John’s passing in 1991. Years later she caught the eye of a fellow church choir member, Harold Eichlin, also of Horsham. They were married from 1997 until his passing in 2004. Harold and Floss enjoyed their years together traveling, attending concerts, attending family events, trips to Nags Head, NC, and completing the daily crossword puzzle.

Eventually, and sadly, Floss fell victim to cognitive decline, later diagnosed as Alzheimer’s Disease. Her final years were spent peacefully. Her family is grateful for the special care provided by the staff at Dresher Hill Health Center, Dresher, PA.

Florence is survived by her three loving children, JoAnne ‘Josie’ Heins of Geneva, IL, Eric Heyer (Laurie) of York, PA and Lisa (Paul) Bowman of Elkins Park, PA. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Matthew Heins, Joshua Heins, Dorie Heyer, Jacob Heyer, John Bowman and William Bowman and five great grandchildren, Marcus Heins, Rex Heins, Leila Heins, Gabriel Heins and Sophia Heins. All mourn her passing and celebrate her long life.

Services are pending. Memorial contributions may be made to St John’s Lutheran Church, 505 N York Rd, Hatboro, PA 19040.
