George Maute of North Wales passed away on June 4, 2025 surrounded by his loving family, He was 94 years old. George was the beloved husband of the late Emily Maute with whom he had shared over 72 years of marriage. George was born in Green Lane, PA a son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Maute.
George was a U.S. Navy Veteran. When asked by his family his reason for joining the Navy was he felt he could swim farther then he could run. George attended Boot camp in Mount Laka for 14 weeks, served aboard U.S.S. Manchester for 3 years, aboard the U.S.S. Hanson for 5 years and aboard the U.S. S. Sperry. George worked on periscopes and Nuclear Generators on submarines. On one occasion George was working on a generator and the Captain announced they were going out to sea, when George informed him he was still on the Submarine; the Captain simply informed him that he would be joining them for the day.
During his time in the service he served two tours in Vietnam along with time in Australia, Korea, Japan and 2 years in San Diego, CA where he was on Shore Patrol at the Navy Training Center.
During his travels after his time in the Service George visited the World’s Fair, delivered hospital beds to Acapulco, and served his community for 24 years in the Horsham Township Parks Department.
George really enjoyed ballroom dancing with Emily as well as, camping and boating on Lake Wallenpaupack. All of his favorite activities had one thing in common, spending time with his family in which he held dear to his heart.
George is survived by his children, Patricia Ann (Maute) Ross and George J. Maute, Jr., six grandchildren, Stacey (Timothy) Robinson, Bruce (Jessica) Ross, Christina Ross, George(Lori) Maute, III, the late Paul Maute and Crystal (Larson) Smith. 12 great grandchildren, Codie Maute, Brittany Maute, Brandon Maute, Jillian Maute, Anthony Maute, Christopher Maute, Brendan (Ross) Jones, Paige Ross, Chase Ross, Faith Ross and Ryan Gouiran, one great great grandchild Ellie Maute and his Brother, Ron Maute.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday, June 11th th after 10:00 am in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 505 N. York Road, Hatboro and are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 am. His interment will follow in Whitemarsh Memorial Park Cemetery, Ambler. In lieu of flowers donations in George’s name may be made to St John’s Memorial Music Fund, 505 N. York Road, Hatboro, PA 19040.
