John Scott Bright of Horsham passed away on August 18, 2022. He was 59 years old.
Born on November 8, 1962, in Great Lakes, Illinois, John was the beloved son of Joan C. Fast of Doylestown, and the late Hulon Bright.
John was the owner of Bright’s Firewood in Doylestown. He started the business when he was 18 years old, and over the years he nurtured it from a small, backyard business to one with thousands of customers all over Bucks County. The business was John's baby, and he was proud of being a small business owner.
John’s interests were wide and varied. He loved spending time with those he loved, traveling, whitewater rafting, camping, and doing anything that involved being out in nature. His travels took him rafting in Patagonia, hiking in the Redwoods, and to countless places in between. Simple pleasures were just as important: sitting on the porch with a glass of lemonade, enjoying a meal with friends and family, or enjoying the warmth of his wood stove.
John's greatest passion was aviation. Whether he was flying across the country to visit friends, or simply flying over Bucks County at sunset, he was most at home in the air. His greatest joy was taking someone flying for the first time in his antique Piper Cub. Sharing his love of aviation with others was always a priority for him. John's aviation adventures took him all over. He flew seaplanes in Alaska, flew through the remote backcountry in Labrador, Canada, and took off from snow-covered runways with skis on his plane. As with everything else in his life, the simple things were what he loved the most: a flight after work to watch the sunset, flying somewhere for breakfast, or just being able to look down at the world from another perspective. Everyone around him knew that if a yellow airplane flew over, it was probably John.
John’s generosity and giving spirit knew no bounds. He never hesitated to help those around him with whatever they needed, or to share his wisdom. He was always ready with a story or a corny joke. He will be dearly missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
In addition to his mother, John is survived by his beloved partner of eight years, Caroline Martin-Tumasz.
At John's request, there will be no funeral service. Instead, he asked that family and friends spend some time outdoors with the people they love.
