John N. Lightner, Jr.

John N. Lightner, Jr. of Roslyn, PA passed away on May 23, 2023.  He was 82 years old.  John was the beloved husband to Joanne F. Lightner with whom he had shared 56 years of marriage.  He was born in Philadelphia, PA a son of the late John N. and Anne Lightner, Sr.

In addition to his wife John is survived by a daughter; Laurel Ann Backert and her husband Gary and son; John J. Lightner Sr. and his wife Carrie Ann, grandchildren; Matthew Backert, John J. Lightner Jr., Ryan Backert and Abigail Lightner, a sister; Joan Lauber and her husband George, son-in-law Michael A. Lute, sister-in-law; Christine Kennedy and many nieces, nephews and large loving family. In addition to his parents John was predeceased by a daughter; Mary Beth Lute.

John was a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran serving during the Vietnam Era.  He also served as a member of the Model Train Show Committee for many years.

Relatives and friends will be received by his family on Tuesday, May 30th after 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, May 31st after 10:30 a.m. followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. in Schneider Funeral Home, 431 N. York Road, Hatboro. His interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials in John’s memory may be made to Briar Bush Nature Center 1212 Edgehill Road, Abington PA 19001.
