John McGowan Obituary

John Michael McGowan of Horsham Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, March 8th 2023, in the comfort of his own home with his beloved Paula by his side. He was 79 years old.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to his adoring mother Ruth (Roberts) Bond and big sister Jaqueline (McGowan) Hotter, who both preceded him in death.

Known to his friends and family as Mike, he was a member of the Upper Moreland police department for over 30 years, protecting and serving his community with honor, before retiring in 2002; he then continued to serve as a volunteer fire police officer until 2020.  Friends and family will never forget his humor, dedication and loyalty.

He is survived by his wife, Paula (Galetti) McGowan; Daughters: Kimberly McGowan, Kristine Grow (Nelson), and Kelly McGowan, as well as his grandchildren: Thomas Gray, Alexander Gray, Michaela White, Elizabeth White, Olivia Gray, Aidan White and Katrina Gray, and his great-granddaughter Ava Gray. 

While he had only one sibling, Mike had a large and loving extended family. His Niece and Nephews: John Hotter (Amy), Charles Hotter (Tina), Shannon Karbach (Robert), Craig Hotter (Dana), and amazing in-laws Ross Herbert, Christopher Galetti (Mary), Tracy Sutton (James), Marguerite Gustafson (Wayne), Stephanie Fisher (Walt), Daniel Galetti, Claudia Heller (John), Melissa Heron (Andrew) and their children: Jacqueline Herbert, Erin Waterfall (Edward), Matthew Galetti, Laura Galetti, Jamie Enge (Timothy), Nicole Reichner (John), Elizabeth Moffatt (John), Emily Sutton (Adam), Bryan Gustafson (Elisabeth), Eric Gustafson, Kevin Gustafson (Alaina), Jason Fisher (Lindsey), Jordan Fisher, Courtney Galetti, Dylan Galetti, Shane Galetti, Noah Galetti, John Heller, Melissa Heller, Nicholas Heller, Christopher Heller, and Andrew Heron.

Relatives and friends will be received by his family on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm followed by to a celebration of his life at 12:00 pm in Schneider Funeral Home, 431 N. York Rd, Hatboro, PA 19040. His interment will be held privately.  Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Lung Association.
