John D. Metzgar, Jr., of New Hope, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021. He was 81 years old. Fondly known as “Jack,” Mr. Metzgar, and Grandpop, he was born in Trenton, a son of the late John D. Metzgar Sr. and Emma Katherine Crosley; brother to Robert (Susan), Steven (Janice), Louise (Thomas) and Carol (the late Greg).
John was a teacher at heart, both in and out of the classroom. His former high school students would visit to thank him for his lessons about history and about life, while his kids and grandkids knew he had a story for every occasion. A graduate of Indiana University, he considered himself a Hoosier and never missed an IU basketball game. John was a lifelong Phillies fan. He was proud of his Navy service on the USS Enterprise CVN-65 and his country.
He was happiest when surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Joanne Yates, and is also survived by his children, John D. Metzgar III (Carol), William Metzgar (Shannon), and Wendy Metzgar; eight grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and one Yorkie Terrier, Bailey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in John’s name to the Semper Fi and America’s Fund.
There will be a private family service at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. You can stream John's service here.
