John Monteith, who lived most of his life in New York City and the past three years in Jersey City, passed away on January 16, 2018. He was 69. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Wilson W. & Helen (nee Hanna) Monteith.
John graduated from Hatboro-Horsham High School and Boston University with a BFA Acting.
After performing in The Proposition in Cambridge and New York City, he joined the Toronto company of Second City. He returned to the States to partner with Suzanne Rand forming the critically acclaimed comedy team of Monteith & Rand. Starring in their own Broadway show and, years later, in their own TV series, they were regulars on the major TV talk shows, including Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. Their impressive list of accomplishments included performances for both Democratic and Republican administrations and even once for the Supreme Court.
John taught improvisation at HB Studios for 25 years and also wrote, directed and acted throughout his professional career.
Surviving are his siblings, Michael Monteith, Patricia Monteith Burnett (Dante Cotumaccio), David Monteith (Bernadine) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Maureen Monteith Lynch.
Relatives and friends will be received by his family after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018, in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 321 Witmer Rd., Horsham, until his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. His interment will follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, 110 W Laurel Ave, Cheltenham, PA 19012.
