Joyce Husband Obituary

Joyce Anne Husband of Hatboro, PA, passed away on December 3, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her two sons.  She was 90 years old.  Joyce was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Thomas R. Husband, Sr.

Born in Franklinville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Norbert and Omega “Dorothy” (Frost) Bergholtz.

Joyce was a graduate of Port Allegany High School in Port Allegany, PA.  She studied English at Upsala College in East Orange, NJ before leaving college to marry her husband, Thomas, in November 1953.  She worked as a food service worker, cashier, and assistant manager in the cafeteria at Upper Moreland High School (UMHS) for many years, even after her sons had graduated.  She later volunteered for 14 years and 9 months at Doylestown Hospital in a variety of roles, including at the cancer center, amassing a total of 4,994 hours during her time there.  Joyce spent most of her time immersing herself in the activities of her family.  She particularly enjoyed assisting her sons in their sports activities, becoming an accomplished scorekeeper for their baseball teams, including for the Hatboro Little League (league Secretary) and the UMHS varsity team.  Later, she had a similar keen interest in the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Joyce was well known for putting her family first before herself, and this is a legacy that she has passed on to three more generations of the family. Some of Joyce’s interests included reading, doing Crossword puzzles and Sudoku (while she could still see) making her famous meatballs and spaghetti sauce, cooking for her kids and grandkids, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by her two sons, Thomas R. Husband, Jr. (Lynda) of Lorton, VA and Kenneth W. Husband of Lansdale, PA; two of her grandchildren, Joshua Husband of San Jose, CA, and Nikki Specht (Jason) of Phoenixville, PA; and her four beloved great-grandchildren: Natalie (16), Soley (6), Harry (3) and Leo (1). She is also survived by her brothers Gary (Mary) Bergholtz and Norb (Betty) Bergholtz, along with many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Husband, her granddaughter Jaime Husband, her sister Naoma McDowell and her brother Devon Bergholtz.
