Louis DiTore of Hatboro passed away on January 6, 2024 at 99 years old. He was the devoted husband of Elsie DiTore (Sansoni) with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. He was born in Union City, NJ to the late Paolo and Anna DiTore, before spending his childhood in North Philadelphia.
Lou left traditional school at age 15 to attend barber school. From 1939 to 1942 he worked at various barber shops in Philadelphia until he accepted a job for Anthony Volpe Barbershop, located across the street from Connie Mack Stadium, the neighborhood known to the locals as Swampoodle. It was in that shop where he cut the hair of many famous Philadelphia Phillies players. He lived through the depression then went off to WWII as a teenager. In 1963 he married his wife Elsie and moved to Horsham. In 1968, he opened Louis DiTore Barbershop on Byberry Road in Hatboro, where he worked until his death. He loved nothing more than the interactions he had with his customers each day. He became an icon in the Hatboro-Horsham community for his passion and dedication to his work. Lou also enjoyed golfing, listening to the Opera and big band music, traveling the US with his family, gardening, watching the Phillies and most of all, spending time with his family. He was a unique individual who loved God, his family, his country and his work.
In addition to his wife, Elsie, Lou is survived by his three sons, Louis DiTore (Debbie), Robert DiTore (Jackie), and John DiTore (Eileen), his grandchildren, Nicole, Bobby, John and James, his great grandchildren Dante and Dominic, his sister-in-law Dorothy Poli as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his oldest grandson, Michael DiTore (late husband to Rebecca), his brother, Carmen, sisters Mary and Martha (Paul), brothers-in-law Dante Poli, and Emidio (Mil) Sansoni and sister-in-law Hilda Sansoni.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 1795 Columbia Ave. Warrington, PA where Lou’s family will receive after 9:30am. A Christian Burial will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont, PA.
