Mae Steere Obituary

Mae Phyllis (Achenbach) Steere, of Hatboro, passed away on April 10, 2022, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

She was blessed to have shared her love, kindness and zest for life to all who knew her for the 91 years on this earth.  She was the devoted wife to the late William J. Steere, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.

Mae was born in Pen Argyl, Pa. to the late Lewis and Annie (Dietrich) Achenbach.  With the passing of her parents at a young and tender age, Mae was raised in Hatboro by her devoted sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Verne Arnts.

Mae possessed an extraordinary gift of gardening and design, with the Gardners of Crooked Billet receiving the benefits of her talent.  As past president of the club, (2015-2017), Mae's proudest accomplishment was facilitating the redesign of the garden in Miller's Meadow, which received an award from the prestigious PA Horticulture Society.

Mae loved all things surrounding physical fitness and wellness, having been a familiar face at the Hatboro YMCA from its inception in 1974 until its closure in 2019.  Together with her husband, Bill, they were strong advocates in fundraising for the development of the Hatboro YMCA indoor facility in the late 1970s.

Mae was preceded in death by her son, Mark Steere.  She is survived by her three children, Susan Barnes (Pete), Lee Bergiven (Paul) and Scott Steere (Terry).  Her grandchildren, Michael Steere (Jenn), Sydney Steere, Julia Bergiven and Isabelle Bergiven, great-grandchildren, Ariana Morgan and Kaelyn Steere, brother-in-Law, Art Irons and Richard Achenbach, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and life time friends.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff and hospice care at the Warminster Masonic Village, who nurtured and cared for Mae during her final days.
