A week shy of her 86th birthday, Mary Cannon of Hatboro, PA passed away surrounded by loved ones on January 25, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Andrew Cannon with whom she had shared 65 years of marriage. She was born in Coole, Cranford, County Donegal, Ireland. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Ann McHugh (Martin).
At the age of 17, Mary left her home in Ireland for a new adventure in America. Being from a large family, and the oldest daughter, she took a job doing what she knew best, taking care of others. Mary spent her career taking care of children and the elderly. Being a caregiver was not just a job, it was her true calling and passion in life. She enjoyed being a life time member of the Donegal Association of Philadelphia. Mary loved entertaining family and friends and always had room for one more at her table. She left a legacy of humor and Irish wit that will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her.
In addition to Mary’s husband, Andrew, Mary is survived by her children, Mary Ann Jordan (John), Edward Cannon (Caroline), Michael Cannon (Angela), Kathleen Polichetti (Michael) and preceded in death by her daughter, Rose Cannon. Devoted grandmother to Diane Holmes (Shane), Donna Wade, Alison Cannon (Adam Merah), Sean Cannon (Maggie Roth), Kevin Cannon, Ryan Cannon, Kara Polichetti, and Brayden Polichetti. Loving great grandmother to Gavin Wade, Patrick Holmes, Noah Merah, Eva Merah, and Rosie Cannon. She leaves behind a large family filled with many nieces and nephews in Ireland. She is survived by her sisters Kay and Bridget along with her brothers, Dennis, Michael, Martin, Edward and preceded in death by her twin brother, John McHugh. Lastly, Mary was a proud aunt to her emigrated nephew Cathal McHugh and his wife Siobhan.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mary’s viewing on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Saint Catherine of Sienna, 321 Witmer Road, Horsham, PA, and to attend her funeral mass at 11:30 AM. Her interment will be private at another time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Donegal Association of Philadelphia, PO Box 803, Broomall, PA 19008.
