Mary E. Powers

Mary E. (Vearling) Powers of Southampton Estates, Southampton, PA passed away September 25, 2023.

Mary was born August 29, 1926 in Philadelphia and recently celebrated her 97 th birthday. She was the

daughter of the late Elmer P. and Mary E. (Jackson) Vearling and was one of seven children. She was a

1944 graduate of St. Hubert’s High School for Girls and briefly attended St. Joseph’s Hospital School of

Nursing.

She married Carl Powers, Sr. in 1947 and worked tirelessly by his side for 58 years until his passing in

2005. During that time, they had three sons, Carl Jr. (Marie), of Southampton, who passed away in

2019, Gregory (Barbara) of West Newfield, Maine and Vance (Michelle) of Allentown, PA. She

supported her husband in the founding of two successful businesses, P&H Diesel Service and Powers

Truck Service. She was employed by the former SL Industries, of Warrington, PA for a number of years

in support of her family.

She and Carl, Sr. spent many happy summers in Avalon, NJ and were longtime members of the Avalon

Yacht Club. Mary was the President of the club’s Women’s Auxiliary in 1970. Mary and Carl are

remembered for the many good friends and great times they had there, along with many social

gatherings with friends and family in their home in Warrington, PA.

In addition to Greg and Vance, she is also survived by a brother, Thomas, seven grandchildren and four

great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings Elmer, Robert, Dorothy, Walter, and Joseph

Vearling.

Relatives and friends will be received by her family on Monday,  October 2nd after 10 AM in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 856 Euclid Ave., Warrington, PA 18976 and are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Her inurnment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Warminster.
