Mary Anne Whitehead

Mary Anne Whitehead of Hatboro passed away on June 13, 2026. She was 86 years old. Mary Anne was the beloved wife of the late Major William Charles Whitehead, Jr.  She was born in Coaldale, Pennsylvania and was the daughter of the late Luka and Mary (nee Majcan) Scrbacic. Mary Anne graduated from Lansford High School in Pennsylvania in 1958 and married Major William C. Whitehead Jr. at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York, in 1962. Mary Anne lived the life of a career Army officer wife over the next several years as her husband was transferred to Army bases in the United State and in Germany.

After her husband was deployed to Vietnam in 1967, she moved to Hatboro. After Major Whitehead was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968, she raised her children, Billy and Beth, while attending Temple University where earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Mary Anne then began her career, working for several local newspapers, including the
old Hatboro Public Spirit, and earned several awards for excellence in journalism while pursuing a Master’s degree in journalism, which she was awarded in 1982. She then focused her career on public relations from 1982 to 1992 and was the Public Relations Director for Manor College in Jenkintown, PA.  In 1992, she married William Pasquella and worked with him to grow his family- operated business, Exton Granite Calibration Services, Inc. Mary Anne assumed the  role of President/Treasurer of the company after William passed away suddenly in  October 1992 and continued operating the company until her retirement in 2010.

Mary Anne was also active in her church and community. She was the first woman to serve as the Council President at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 1978, Mary Anne started a help group, Common Bond, for widowed and divorced members in the community.  She also enjoyed singing in the Abington Choral Club, writing, dancing, swimming, and caring for her feline companions. Her greatest joy was spending time with her daughter and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, her parents and her seven older siblings, Mary Anne was predeceased by a son, William Charles Whitehead III.  She is survived by a daughter, Beth Anne Whitehead, grandsons Adam Thron and his wife, (Caitlin Bedesem), and Eric Thron, many loving nieces, nephews, and an extended loving family. 

Relatives and friends will be received by her family on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 505 North York Road, Hatboro, PA 19040, followed by her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s. Her interment will be private and will follow at a later date at West Point Cemetery, on the grounds of the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York.
