Paul R. Spence, Sr.

Paul R. Spence, Sr. of Hatboro passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was 78 years old. He was the beloved husband of JoAnn Spence with whom he had shared 12 years of marriage. Paul was born in Philadelphia a son of the late Ernest G. and Kathryn T. Spence.

Paul’s love for adventure was exemplified by his frequent RV road trips up and down the East Coast, following the NASCAR circuit. His spirit of adventure was only matched by his enthusiasm for Philadelphia sports, he was a passionate fan of the Eagles and Phillies. His loyalty to Penn State football was unwavering and he fondly attended numerous games with his son and grandsons, creating lasting memories.

Professionally, Paul was a dedicated member of Steamfitters 420, eventually transitioning into a role as an estimator. His career was marked by hard work and dedication, a testament to his commitment to providing the best life for his family.

Paul was always happiest when working with his hands, whether building, fixing things, or sharing his interests with his children & grandchildren. His passion for trains and golf will live on in his Grandsons.

Paul was a kind-hearted, patient, and forgiving individual who gave generously to others without expecting anything in return. His love extended to his pets, his hobbies of building model trains, and his cherished beach vacations.

Paul’s warmth and generosity touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife JoAnn, Paul is survived by his children, Paul R. Spence, Jr (Carla), Brian P. Spence (Heather) and Nikki Mergard (Dominic), Six grandchildren, Andrew P. and Vincent J. Spence, Samantha and Alex Menzak, Nash and Wyatt Mergard, sisters, Christina Weissbrod (Rick), Susan Bee (Late Jimmy),  Joan Sartor (John). Paul was preceded in death by a brother John and his wife Peggy.

Relatives and friends will be received by his family on Thursday, September 12th after 10 a.m. in Schneider Funeral Home, 431 N. York Road, Hatboro and are invited to attend his Memorial Service at 11 a.m. His Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s name may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA, 19 East Ridge Pike, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
