Richard H. Creech M.D. Of Foulkeways in Gwynedd, PA died at age 83 on July 1, 2023. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Charlotte (nee Goetz), daughters Susan Passman (Brian) and their daughters Chloe and Grace from San Diego and Nancy Cullum and her daughters Kaitlyn and Alexa from Dresher, PA . He is also survived by his sister Joan Kraft from Gex, France. Dr. Creech was a medical oncologist/hematologist, clinical researcher, teacher, and administrator who concluded his career after 22 years as chairman of medicine at the Temple University Hospital (TUH) at the Jeanes Campus in Philadelphia in 2014. He also served as the division chief of medical oncology at the TUH and as adjunct professor of medicine at the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia from 2008 to 2010.
After completing his medical training at the Johns Hopkins University, Penn Medicine and The National Cancer Institute, Dr. Creech began working at the American Oncologic Hospital (AOH) in 1972, where he was one of four medical oncologists. The institution expanded rapidly and later joined the adjacent Institute for Cancer Research (ICR) to become the Fox Chase Cancer Center (FCCC). There he enjoyed caring for patients, serving as principal investigator at Fox Chase of the national Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows from the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University. As chairman of medicine at Jeanes Hospital, he developed a continuing medical education program for staff physicians and rotating house staff from Penn and Temple. One of Dr. Creech’s biggest attributes, in addition to his academic achievements, was his dedication and compassion for his patients and their families. He was beloved by all. Dr. Creech received a bachelor's degree in 1961 from the Johns Hopkins University. While attending medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, and working summers at (ICR) in 1962, he met Charlotte, a cute student and research assistant, who worked down the hall from his father Hugh J. Creech who was the Chairman of Chemotherapy at ICR. They were married a year later.
Richard and Charlotte shared the love of travel. After their daughters graduated high school, they traveled the world, visiting all seven continents, enjoying wildlife and local cultures. During this time Richard became an avid photographer, capturing these moments. Dr Creech's final association with the Jeanes Campus was as a board member of the Anna T. Jeanes Foundation, a Quaker-based philanthropic organization. Funeral service and interment will be held privately. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service to be held on Saturday July 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the former Cheltenham Meeting House located on the TUH-Jeanes Campus at 7600 Central Avenue, Philadelphia, 19111.
