Richard H. Fidler of Lower Gwynedd, PA passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. He was 83 years old. Richard was born in 1940 in Philadelphia, PA. Richard was the beloved son of Wilbert C. and Lillian Fidler.
Richard is survived by his Sisters: Loretta and Laraine (Ken); his Brothers: Phillip and Kenneth; Nieces and Nephews: Keith, Kelly, Jennifer (Ryan) and Paul (Gisela); and Great Nieces and Nephews; Alexander, Owen, Jake, Cole, Mia and Veronica.
Richard was the first blind person to graduate from Bucknell University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics and a Masters Degree in education before going on to teach high-school math for 31 years at Germantown Academy.
During his time at Bucknell university, Richard was a recipient of the Recording for the Blind Scholastic Achievement Award given to him by John F. Kennedy in the White House in recognition of academic achievement, outstanding leadership, and service to others. In 2013, he won the Loyalty to Bucknell Alumni Award for his volunteer service to his alma mater and was on the Board of Admissions for Bucknell University where he enjoyed interviewing prospective students.
Richard also enjoyed traveling around the world especially to England and had a deep appreciation for music, visiting the Academy of Music to hear the Philadelphia Orchestra on many occasions.
Relatives and friends will be received by Richard’s family on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 after 9:00 am followed by his Funeral Service at 9:30 am in Schneider Funeral Home, 431 N. York Road, Hatboro, PA 19040. His interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
