Robert Metzgar Obituary

Robert E. Metzgar, 83, of Wyomissing, PA, died peacefully Wednesday, May 21, at Reading Hospital. Born in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of the late John D. Metzgar and Emma K. (nee Crosley) Metzgar.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Susanne McMenamy; his son, Robert P. Metzgar; and his grandchildren, Aedan, Molly, Ian, Darren, and Winter. He is also survived by his sisters, Louise Rhode and Carol Vida. He was the husband of the late Susan (nee Felton) Metzgar.  

Known to many of his friends as “Metz”, he was a graduate of Abington High School, Class of 1959. He received his BA in Broadcasting from Penn State University in 1965. He was employed by NBC in Los Angeles, CA before his career as a long-time broadcast communications teacher at Council Rock School District in Newtown, PA.  Bob was an avid Penn State and Philadelphia sports fan. He also enjoyed ice hockey, automobiles, and spending time with his family.

He was a lifetime member of the Willow Grove United Methodist Church as well as the Pennsylvania State University Alumni Association.  As a Free & Accepted Mason, Bob was also a long-time active member of W.K. Bray Lodge #410 in Hatboro, PA and a Shriner at LuLu Temple in Plymouth Whitemarsh, PA.

His inurnment will be private and held at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The United Methodist Church World Mission Fund.
