Ruth E. Fuller (Griffis) of Horsham passed away, Friday, July 7th, 2023, surrounded by family. She was 87 years old. Ruth was born August 9th, 1935, at her family’s farm on Witmer Road to the late Joseph E. Smith and Florence G. Smith (Potts). She was the fourth of five children and affectionately referred to as Betty throughout her life.
Ruth attended Horsham Elementary from 1941-1949 for 1st through 8th grade. She graduated from Hatboro High School (now known as Hatboro-Horsham HS) in 1953. Ruth worked at Hatboro Federal Savings Bank and Loan and the Bank of Old York Road. Before retiring in 1989, Ruth spent 14 years working at the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster. She was very fond of many of her coworkers throughout the years.
Ruth enjoyed playing the accordion in the Warminster Symphony Orchestra, crocheting, sleeping, collecting Hallmark ornaments and Beanie Babies, and drinking homemade sun tea. She also loved to write, do crossword puzzles, and read Globe magazine. But her most favorite time of year was when the pink magnolia tree bloomed in her front yard. She spent many days sitting in her swing admiring it.
Ruth is survived by her 4 children, Kim Williams (John), Bud Griffis (Theresa), Sharon Hitselberger (Paul), and Sue Griffis. Her 11 grandchildren, Dawn (Andrew), Brian (Courtney), Mary (Francesco), Shawn, Kelly (Stephen), Paul (Sarah), Krista, Mike (Lauren), Emily, Christine, and Graceanne. And her 12 great grandchildren, Miles, Gino, Carter, Kylah, Owen, Cole, Beckett, Alex, Leo, Danny, Haven, and Remi. As well as many other friends and family. Many of her grandkids will always remember her singing, “You Are My Sunshine”. Ruth was preceded in death by 3 of her siblings, Joseph, Donald & Dorothy.
