Wilbur (Webb) L. Barber, of Harleysville, PA, formerly of Hatboro, PA, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021. He was 88 years old. Webb was the beloved husband of the late Mary Jane Crayton Barber with whom he had shared over 60 years of marriage. He was born in Luzerne Township, Fayette County, PA, son of the late Jacob and Bertha Barber.
He proudly served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army, was a longstanding member of the Friendship-Williams Masonic Lodge, The Pennypack Questers, and the Bucks County Audubon Society. Webb had a gift for inspiring learning and sharing knowledge in a way that allowed everyone around him to grow at their own pace. He used this ability to reach thousands of children and adults first as a math and science teacher at McDonald Elementary until his retirement, and then as a volunteer at The Franklin Institute for 18 years. Webb also had a heart for Christian service as evidenced in his time as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at Davisville Baptist Church, and his time on the board at Bethanna in Southampton. He was a consummate gentleman, always putting other’s needs before his own. But Webb’s greatest achievement and overwhelming love was his family. Whether it was traveling the world with his beloved wife, creating lifetime memories with his grandkids at Honey Hollow, or sharing a quiet birthday dinner with his son and daughter in law, Webb always found the greatest blessings in togetherness. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Webb is survived by his son, Daniel Barber, Sr. and his wife, Michele; grandsons, Daniel Barber, Jr and his wife, Julia Flynn, Michael Barber and his wife, Allie Hartin, and Jonathan Barber; granddaughter, Yesali Barber; and his brother, Samuel Barber. In addition to his wife and parents, Webb was predeceased by two brothers, Orville and Arthur Barber.
Relatives and friends will be received by his family on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 after 7:00 p.m., followed by his Memorial Service at 8:00 p.m., in Schneider Funeral Home, 431 N. York Road, Hatboro, PA. His interment will be private at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Webb’s memory may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
