William Louis Dobbs “Bill” died on December 24, 2022, at his home in Warminster, Pennsylvania. He was 99 years old. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Minnie Dobbs (Pelosi). Bill was born on September 3, 1923, in Irvington, New Jersey, the son of Louis and Mary (Wolfe) Dobrosky.
Bill served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Signal Corp during World War II in the China, Burma, and India Theatre from January 1943 to January 1946. After the War, he graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He was a co-founder and owner of Dobbs Auto Body in Springfield, New Jersey from 1954 until 1996. He retired in 2000.
Bill lived in Scotch Plains, New Jersey for 60 years where he was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. In 2018, he and Minnie moved to a retirement community in Pennsylvania. Bill loved bowling, gardening, playing cards, helping his children with house projects, his properties in Cooperstown, New York, and later in life playing golf, until age 94.
Bill was known and respected for his bright, analytical mind and mechanical abilities. Everything he did was methodically planned and orchestrated with perfection; he could always find a better way. He was humble, steady, and calm with a sharp wit, a quiet observer in a group, but one-on-one could talk your ear off. He always had a story to tell and never spoke ill of anyone. His children and grandchildren valued his thoughtful guidance and advice; he was always willing to listen, assess the situation, and offer suggestions and help— generous with his time and resources. Bill asked countless questions, as he was interested in everyone and everything around him. He was loved and adored not only by his family but also by his many friends and neighbors.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his two daughters, Phyllis O’Donnell and her husband, Larry of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Diane Dobbs and her husband Jay McHugh of Newtown, Pennsylvania, and son, Donald Dobbs and his wife Maria of Clear Spring, Maryland. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Caitlin, Kelly, Zachary, and Michael.
